Our Story

About Us

Kokki Eco is a social enterprise located in Melbourne, Australia that focuses on impact through ethical trade, we reinvest more than 60% of our sales back into trade. This not only supports our makers but their communities. Our goal is to bring beautiful, high-quality products to the planet.

Our Team

We have a small design team in Melbourne Australia including our amazing pattern maker who has more than 40 years of experience working with many brands within Australia, to bring our collections to you.  All our samples are made by our fashion designer in Jaipur that brings her passion for sustainable fashion.

Our Roots

Kokki began back in 2017, when the original team Urban Edge won a Social Enterprise Hackathon at RMIT University. The original two winners formed the Food Loop Group and entered the RMIT Activator program. The pitch was to wireframe a food waste app which the team completed in 12 weeks. At the end of the program, Sandun went back to second year of Architecture and Tanya, who was studying Building Design Architectural, decided to continue on with the Food Loop Group. This then became Kokki.

DESIGN & SUSTAINABILITY PRINCIPLES

Our ethic is to be Kind to the Planet.  At Kokki we don't have seasons, many of our collections are repeated and are meant to be worn for many years to come.  We work hard on fit and quality and are always looking at how we can design collections to look great and comfortable on anybody.  We want to our customers to wear our collections over and over.

Our ethics is to work with natural fibers linen and cotton and up-cycled fabrics over synthetic, to reduce the impact of microplastics in the ocean from washing synthetic fibers.

Any products we receive that are not quite right we remake them into headbands and scrunchies that have been very popular with our customers.  The waste left over is very minimal and reduces collections going into landfill.

Packaging

Our mailers are from Australia Post are made from 80% recycled material.  Our local post office is within walking distance or a  2 minute car ride for heavier packages.    All plastic in the business is reused in packaging such as fill-in cosmetic bags for display or recycled.  Any products that arrives with slight faults is remade into headbands and scrunchies by us in Melbourne to reduce our waste.

We reuse boxes from a local Interior design store that calls us when boxes are available and we use them for shipping for our wholesale orders.  It saves the boxes from going to landfill.

ETHICS

We believe strongly in community. It is important that all talented artisans are paid appropriately and to be able to prosper. We have strong relationships with our makers in India and work closely with us on collections. We value our customers, we have a fair and ethical returns policy. We don’t believe in offering customers store credit only this encourages customers to keep a product that will not be worn and is not of our value. If a product is not fit for purpose we offer refunds or will happily arrange a time for customers to see our other collections for an exchange. All of our collections are small and handmade this does not affect our customer’s ability to exchange or return them.
